The hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular axis, or HPTA, is a three-part hormone feedback loop that maintains natural testosterone levels in men. The hypothalamus, located at the base of the brain, signals the pituitary gland to release luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). LH then travels through the bloodstream to the testes, where it stimulates testosterone production.
